IPS™ FIVE

Description

The IPS™ family of interpreters handles all standard page description languages (PDLs) with a universal interpreter architecture. IPS PDL interpreters enable printers and multifunction devices to be compatible with print jobs from a wide variety of sources: Windows, Mac, Linux and mobile operating systems; office, engineering and graphic arts applications; and enterprise content and management systems.

The IPS FIVE interpreter provides a complete PCL 5 printing solution for color and monochrome printers and multifunction devices. CSR’s implementation offers full compatibility to the HP standard. IPS FIVE supports the PCL 5e language as implemented in the HP LaserJet P4014 series of printers and the PCL 5C language as implemented in the HP Color LaserJet CP4525 and HP Color LaserJet CP5225 series. IPS FIVE implements all PCL 5C commands specified in the Hewlett-Packard PCL 5C Color Technical Reference Manual and the HP PCL 5 Specification. IPS FIVE can be used to build either monochrome or color devices—both types of devices accept color PCL 5 commands for compatibility with newer HP LaserJet printers.

IPS FIVE features sophisticated image processing, memory management and compression techniques for highest quality output. Additionally, IPS FIVE includes accurate and fast rendering of raster operations (ROPs) in both the CMY and CMYK color spaces. IPS FIVE also offers innovative Smart Black technology, that discerns if PCL 5C files contain no color data and prints such files using only the K plane on color engines, resulting in faster monochrome print speeds.

CSR provides complete source code for the IPS FIVE interpreter and a full set of engineering documentation to enable OEMs to customize the interpreters for specific market requirements. With its layered architecture, application programming interface (API) and common display list model, IPS reduces time-to-market and development costs.

PCL 6 Compatibility

IPS FIVE, combined with IPS XLC, provides a complete printing solution compatible with Hewlett-Packard’s PCL 6 as implemented in the HP LaserJet P4014 series, HP Color LaserJet CP4525 series and HP Color LaserJet CP5525 series.

CSR Engineering Support Services

CSR offers Source Code Maintenance and Engineering Support Programs that can shorten development cycles and ensure that the latest PCL language features are available as new controllers are developed. The IPS FIVE source code license includes technical support, software integration training and source code maintenance. The Source Code Maintenance Program provides extended source code maintenance and technical consulting, including informative technical bulletins and software patches and updates.

CSR’s Engineering Support Program provides direct software integration assistance and design recommendations to optimize the interface between the PCL 5 compatible interpreter and the controller. OEMs can also work with a CSR-authorized development partner. These companies have experience in CSR’s IPS software integration and can offer fixed-cost, turnkey controller development for a range of controller configurations and print engines.
