Location Based Services (LBS) have widely varying requirements for accuracy that must be fulfilled within the constraints of the physical environment and device capabilities.
For example, turn-by-turn navigation requires GPS-quality accuracy, but mobile social networks may not require such precision. Furthermore, indoor and dense urban locations reduce the efficacy of GPS and LBS, and thus demand complementary positioning techniques such as Wi-Fi and LTE OTDOA/CDMA AFLT.
The CSR Positioning Centre (CPC) offers a wide array of location techniques (such as AGPS, OTDOA, AFLT, E-OTD, E-Cell ID, Wi-Fi) to mobile operators to provide the optimal handset position within device capability and RF environment constraints.
